Dental crowns

Crowns are recommended to cover teeth that are damaged, broken or worn down. In some cases where your existing teeth are abnormally shaped or you are unhappy with the general appearance of them they can be recommended for a smile makeover. Crowns can be sculptured to match your existing teeth, close gaps (bridge work) or create a new smile makeover. They have a longer life span when compared to other dental treatments such as Veneers & Lumineers. This makes them not only a cheap  alternative but a better investment. Dental crowns can be aesthetically fabricated to reflect “light” like natural teeth, and mimic the shape, size and colour of the surrounding teeth. Your natural tooth underneath is preserved, protecting your natural tooth and gums for a longer period of time. A dental crown is a permanent fixture in your mouth and many of our patients have had the same dental crown(s) for 10-15 years.

Zirconia crowns are mainly used in cosmetic dentistry. It can be used for mostly with an esthetic purpose to eliminate extensive discoloration when bleaching does not give intended results, for treatment of hereditary discoloration of teeth, for slightly crowded and crooked or separated teeth problems such as diastema when orthodontic treatment is not preferred, for restoration of discolored teeth with old fillings which have structural defects and excessive material loss, on back teeth as bridges or crowns, for implant supported dental prosthesis on front teeth and to design smile esthetics.

How do I care for my dental crown?

The crown itself cannot decay, but decay can start where the edge of the crown joins the tooth. Therefore, to prevent decay affecting the crown, it is important to keep this area just as clean as you would your natural teeth. Brush two times a day with a fluoride toothpaste.

What are Inlays & Onlays?
Dental inlays and onlays are a medium between dental crowns and fillings. They are made from pure porcelain to fit the shape of a cavities exact shape and size. They are implicated on teeth at the back of the mouth that has suffered a moderate level of decay. They are perfect for teeth that have undergone some fracturing; more serious damage will probably be resolved with a dental crow. Unlike a filling they do not apply any pressure to the walls of the cavity. The ensures the cavity/ damage does not get any bigger which is often the case with a filling.

Dental bonding Bonding can improve how your teeth look if they have the excess space between them, or if they are chipped, broken, stained, or cracked.
Dentists also use bonding materials to fill small cavities or to protect the exposed root of a tooth.
The dentist usually does this procedure in a single office visit by applying an etching solution followed by tooth-colored materials.
Although bonding can last for several years, it is more likely than other types of restorations to become chip or become stained or just wear down.
